Safelite AutoGlass Introduces New Marketing Concept Focused on Humor in Latest Digital Video
While Safelite AutoGlass is a successful TV advertiser, the company’s marketing team was interested in finding fresh ideas for online video content, so they held an internal contest in which all of the company’s11,000 employees were invited to submit their creative ideas. The top five selected by the marketing team each won a prize of $500 and then they were posted to Facebook for a public vote for the best.
Janet’s submission called “Ladies on a Bench” won and she recently participated in the video shoot filmed at Whetstone Park. Janet, who studied cinematography at Ohio State University 34 years ago tried to make it in the film business in Los Angeles before returning to Columbus in 1993. It’s been 30 years since she’s been on a film set and the opportunity has her creative juices flowing.
“The day was very exciting, and the whole process was so much fun,” said Janet, who’s worked for Safelite for 15 years. “I’m looking for other company-sponsored video contests now, including Doritos!”
Janet’s idea featured a pair of "little old ladies" waiting while a Safelite technician fixes a rock chip. The ladies, played by professional actresses Joanne White and Linda Dorff, bring humor to the video by “admiring” Charlotte-based auto glass technician Micah VanDyke while he works on their windshield. Micah is no stranger to the camera, having previously appeared in a youtu.be/rhS78JMIFYo?list=UU2RCJl5ATR1E3KTHt1BS8iQ this year.
“Janet’s script offers a very entertaining take on the services we offer,” said Director of Advertising Matt Johnson. “This was a fun production for everyone involved. I’m looking forward to seeing the response to the video.”
