Safelite Executive Supports LifeCare Alliance

10-20-2011

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Oct. 20, 2011 After caring for his aging parents, Dino Lanno, senior vice president of supply chain and manufacturing at Safelite AutoGlass®, recognized the need to help other less fortunate seniors. He turned to LifeCare Alliance where he has been a leading supporter of the non-profit, serving on its Board since 2010, backing Safelite’s corporate Meals-on-Wheels route, and advocating for a World Conference Grant from Safelite’s parent company, Belron®. Worth $66,000, the largest Belron® World Conference Grant ever, it was approved in September.

LifeCare Alliance has been central Ohio’s leading Meals-on-Wheels provider for the past 30 years, delivering more than 1.3 million meals annually to the community. The grant assures the continuation of nourishing meals and conversation delivered 365 days a year to homebound older adults and/or individuals with a disability or chronic illness. The funds will also sustain the Agency’s more than twenty senior community dining centers and restaurants across the community, providing nutritious meals, socialization, enriching programming and human contact to otherwise socially isolated adults.

“We are so excited and grateful to receive continued support from Safelite AutoGlass® and particularly Dino,” states Chuck Gehring, president and CEO of LifeCare Alliance. “Many thanks to Dino who is a stellar volunteer and who has been instrumental in us receiving this grant.”

Lanno believes the Meals-on-Wheels program benefits the entire community. “There is a certain value in a charity that allows the elderly to stay in their home longer. It’s a way to preserve their dignity as they age,” Lanno said. “Sometimes the people who deliver the food are just as positively impacted as the people who are receiving it. Giving back to our community is a very rewarding experience.”
