Safelite AutoGlass’s Louisville Team Earns Earth Day Award
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Safelite AutoGlass, the nation's largest provider of vehicle glass repair and replacement, has been recognized by the Kentucky Environmental Quality Commission with an Earth Day award granted each year to individuals and groups who have made significant contributions to environmental protection.
Safelite’s Kentucky locations have recycled more than 43,000 windshields, saving more than 756 tons of waste, and recycled nearly 40 tons of cardboard in 2014. Additionally, the Commission noted Safelite’s sustainability policy, which is to increase efficiency by reducing solid waste and wasted energy.
“It's an honor to recognize Kentuckians for their tireless efforts and unwavering advocacy to environmental protection,” said Arnita Gadson, executive director of the Environmental Quality Commission. “This year's recipients are diverse and their efforts will have positive lasting effects in our state.”
The Kentucky Environmental Quality Commission is a seven-member citizen advisory board that works diligently to strengthen the public's role in solving environmental problems in our communities and the state. The commission was created under state law with a mission to:
- · facilitate public discussion and resolution of environmental issues;
- · promote partnerships to protect the environment for future generations; and
- · serve as an advisory board to the governor and other state officials on environmental matters.
On a national level, Safelite recycled more than 1.3 million windshields in 2014, saving more than 23,000 tons of waste from the landfill. Safelite is the only vehicle glass company with a wide-scale windshield recycling program.
