Safelite Moves to New Warehouse in Hampton Roads
Chesapeake, Va. - Safelite AutoGlass®, the nation's leading vehicle glass repair and replacement company, has relocated to a new warehouse in Chesapeake, Va. to better serve customers in the Hampton Roads region.
The facility, located at 1545 Crossways Blvd., Ste. L&M, Chesapeake, VA 23320, stores the vehicle glass and parts needed for Safelite's technicians to provide repair and replacement services to the eastern Virginia area while also expanding westward.
The warehouse features 35,000 sq. ft. of space and employs more than 40 people. It nearly doubles the size of the current warehouse in Virginia Beach, which Safelite had used for the last 15 years. The new warehouse will store at least 24,000 pieces of glass and parts/accessories. This is the largest inventory in Hampton Roads. The warehouse will be fully operational on October 14, 2010.
"This warehouse is the result of our significant growth in the Eastern Virginia market. The new facility will help us to provide even better service to our customers, by increasing inventory levels. This will, in turn, allow for quicker service to greater numbers of customers than ever before," said Phil Lombardo, area general manager.
The new warehouse is part of the company's overall growth strategy. Beginning in 2009, Safelite® invested $38 million to support growth and will make similar investments in 2010. In addition to opening the new warehouse, the company has also:
- Opened six new warehouses, expanded five and relocated 12 other existing warehouses for added inventory
- Remodeled 40 stores
- Opened its second-largest distribution center in Ontario, California and its largest distribution center in Braselton, Ga.
- Expanded inventory to allow for cross-border deliveries with Canada
- Opened its third national contact center, creating 500 immediate jobs with the potential for up to 1,000 in Phoenix, Ariz.
