Phoenix's Safelite AutoGlass® Earns Recognition for Employee Commuting Program Designed for Cleaner Air
PHOENIX, Ariz. – Jan. 2, 2013 - Safelite AutoGlass® has been recognized by the Valley Metro Business Services for its employee participation in their Trip Reduction Program campaign in October – the Rideshare Employer Challenge.
The Valley Metro Business Services staff, in conjunction with Maricopa County Air Quality Department (MCAQ) and Maricopa Association of Governments (MAG), works with large valley employers to develop and implement Trip Reduction Programs. When Valley residents and employees carpool, take the bus or light rail, walk, bike, telework or work compressed work week schedules, they contribute to a vital valley-wide objective: cleaner air.
All of the region’s employers and schools have been given the goal of reducing single occupant vehicle trips and/or miles traveled to the work site by 10% from an initial survey year baseline, a further 10% reduction each year from years 2-5, and a 5% reduction each year until the overall target of a 60 percent rate of single occupant vehicle travel at each work site is reached.
To reach this goal, one campaign is Rideshare Month in October when commuters across the Valley are invited to leave their car at home to ride transit, carpool or vanpool, work from home, bike or walk. The Employer Challenge for companies in the Maricopa County Trip Reduction Program asked employers across the Valley to compete during the week of October 7 - October 13.
Safelite AutoGlass® won the large-size company category for its employees’ participation in Rideshare Month and will be recognized at the 2013 Clean Air Campaign Award.
