PHOENIX — Aug. 23, 2013 - As an official partner of the Arizona Diamondbacks, August 31 will be Safelite AutoGlass® Day at Chase Field with a variety of activities to benefit the community. “Bring ‘Em Home Safe” Child Car Safety Seat Inspection

Parents are invited to register for a child car safety seat inspection and demonstration at Chase Field between 1:00 – 4:00 p.m., conducted by the City of Phoenix Fire Department. Guests can also receive free windshield inspections from Safelite AutoGlass®. This event is co-sponsored by Arizona Sports 620, Farmers Insurance, Safelite AutoGlass®.

March of Dimes $25,000 Donation

For every windshield repaired or replaced through August 31, 2013, Safelite® donated $1 to the March of Dimes Foundation. Before the game, Safelite® will present a check for $25,000 to the March of Dimes, represented by Michael Simoni, state director of development.

Ceremonial First Pitch

Finally Safelite® selected a family supported by the March of Dimes to throw the ceremonial first pitch at the beginning of the August 31 Diamondbacks game.

Preston Guthrie and his wife Ashley never thought they would be on a pitching mound when they were in Arizona visiting family on Mother’s Day, when Ashley went into pre-term labor. After being rushed to St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center, the doctors were able keep Ashley from delivering. Ten days later, at 28 weeks their daughter Lily was born.

The cause of her premature birth was unknown, as is the case 40 percent of the time. Lily weighed just 2 lbs., 10 oz. and received life-saving surfactant therapy, a respiratory therapy developed through March of Dimes research.

Lily spent 3 ½ months in the Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and just recently returned home to Utah with her family. Lily’s family benefitted from the March of Dimes NICU Family Support Program at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center. Led by a March of Dimes mission mom, this family-centered program offers education and resources to help families who have a baby in the NICU. What started as a family visit ended up an extended stay. Lily is now 6lbs. 3oz. and growing!
