Why is ADAS important?

These safety systems are designed to work together to automate and enhance vehicle safety by alerting the driver to potential problems and avoiding collisions – they can aid, warn and assist.

How does ADAS impact the windshield?

• Front facing cameras mounted on the upper, inner surface of the windshield or attached to the headliner enable many ADAS features to work.
• Most automakers specify these cameras must be recalibrated after a windshield replacement.
• If the cameras are not calibrated properly, the safety systems enabled by the cameras may not work properly and give inaccurate information to the driver, putting driver, passenger and pedestrian safety at stake.

What is ADAS recalibration?

ADAS recalibration is a process that occurs after the windshield and camera sensors have been reinstalled to ensure proper operation of the safety system. Different manufacturers require either static or dynamic process, and for some vehicles, both are required.

Static recalibration requires a speci­fic target image mounted on a ­fixture in front of the vehicle during the recalibration process. Takes 45 minutes to an hour.

Dynamic recalibration requires driving the vehicle at a set speed on well-marked roads to recalibrate the camera system. Takes 30 minutes to an hour.
