Safelite Foundation Awards Four $25,000 Grants

12-20-2011

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Dec. 20, 2011 – Safelite AutoGlass® Foundation, the 501(c)(3) giving arm of the nation’s largest vehicle glass repair and replacement company, has awarded $25,000 Impact Grants to four separate Columbus area non-profit groups: American Red Cross of Greater Columbus, Boys and Girls Clubs of Columbus, Habitat for Humanity, and Mid-Ohio Foodbank.
American Red Cross of Greater Columbus will use the grant to purchase a vehicle to further the mission of its Community Transportation program, which offers critical-need transportation to those with disabilities or medical conditions for those who cannot drive themselves. Safelite AutoGlass® also is a primary sponsor of ARCGC’s Ready When the Time Comes volunteer organization to help those in need during emergencies and natural disasters.
• The Boys and Girls Clubs of Columbus plans to upgrade its technology resources in its facilities to better serve the needs of children who are living in a world that demands fluency with technology. This includes computers, recording equipment for music production or podcasts and such, printers, tablets and more. The Safelite AutoGlass® Foundation has previously sponsored BGCC events including the first annual Great Futures Start Here Youth Summit and Benefit Dinner.
Habitat for Humanity will use the grant toward building a home in central Ohio. Safelite AutoGlass® has previously provided funding for HH’s ReStore, which sells reusable and surplus building materials to the public.
Mid-Ohio Foodbank intends to open an on-site food pantry with funding from the Impact grant. The pantry will be fully stocked and ready for service in times of individual emergencies. In addition, they will provide nutrition programs on feeding families on a limited budget. Safelite AutoGlass® has been a long-term supporter of their annual Operation Feed, collecting money and food during the holiday season.

Applications were reviewed by members of the Safelite AutoGlass® Foundation, a volunteer committee, and selected by the breadth and depth of impact the grant would have on the local community. Twenty-five non-profits applied for the Impact grant in its inaugural year.

“We give back because it’s simply the right thing to do. We believe in investing part of our profits into the betterment of mankind,” said Safelite® President and CEO Tom Feeney. “We are looking forward to seeing the good work of our Impact Grant recipients and to building a long-term supportive partnership.”
